Why their Limited prebuilt micro services to build on top

why is there limited pre-built applications—either the Bank of Anthos or the Online Boutique—and build on top of it. I suggest we are allowed to build creative microservices on GKE, because we are planning to run the AI agents as microservices

Thank you for the question! We want to encourage more technologists from all backgrounds to explore GKE. To make it a little easier for everyone to get going, we're providing a starting point so participants from many backgrounds can focus on making something cool with AI. This also introduces the challenge of working with an existing codebase, which is a very real-world inspired scenario! There are so many considerations that can go into building a high-quality microservice, but our judging will focus on the design of your new AI functionality. While you're required to use the existing samples, you're also welcome to think big with the new functionality you implement- including building additional services.

Does that mean, we are not limited to pre-built applications—either the Bank of Anthos or the Online Boutique, i can build my agent ground up and deploy to GKE as micro-service because the Multi agent system i am building is to solve real world problem for micro-preneurs and artisans in my community, i am participating in this hackathon to validate if its viable. thank you

No, the requirement of the hackathon is "...start with one of our pre-built applications—either the Bank of Anthos or the Online Boutique—and build on top of it." Good luck!

Thank you for the clarifications, moreso, does it means i will deploy my own version of the pre-build app on GKE or acess deployed version over API Key. Is the prebuild apps already deployed?

    Hi Fred,

You will need to build and deploy either of the apps you want to use. We shared guidance on how to do this in our first webinar, which you can watch the recording for here (https://cloudonair.withgoogle.com/events/gke-turns-10-hackathon). There are also development guides available for each app (here is the one for Online Boutique (https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/microservices-demo/blob/main/docs/development-guide.md), and this is the one for Bank of Anthos https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/microservices-demo/blob/main/docs/development-guide.md) which describe how to build with it. You can also find these guides linked on the resources page for the hackathon.

Hope this helps and good luck!
